July 4th: “American Exceptionalism”

Recently I received this exceptional newsletter written by David Barton from Wallbuilders.com.  The article referred to the amazing longevity of the the American Government.   It was so good I felt it should be passed on.   I hope it deepens your awareness of God’s blessings on America.

“The Fourth of July is quickly approaching and America will set another world record for longevity, having passed 232 years under the same governing document! While other nations average a revolution every twenty or thirty years, America continues to remain stable. Neither our closest allies nor our fiercest enemies have experienced the stability with which we have been blessed.

Some describe this accomplishment as “American Exceptionalism” — a term coined in 1831 by Alexis De Tocqueville, a famous French visitor to America who declared:

The position of the Americans is quite exceptional, and it may be believed that no democratic people will ever be placed in a similar one.

This description is not an indication of American superiority; on the contrary, as President John Adams observed, it should always be a source of national humility:

It must be felt that there is no national security but in the nation’s humble acknowledged dependence upon God and His overruling Providence.

American Exceptionalism is the result not only of distinctive ideas set forth in the Declaration and secured in the Constitution but it is especially the result of the blessing of God — a fact recognized and acknowledged from generation to generation:

. . . recommend a general and public return of praise and thanksgiving to Him from whose goodness these blessings descend. The most effectual means of securing the continuance of our civil and religious liberties, is always to remember with reverence and gratitude the source from which they flow. As you celebrate this July 4th, I pray you will do so with a deeper appreciation of God’s providential blessing on America!

God bless the USA!

Great being a grandfather!

Tomorrow, my wife and I will be celebrating the first birthday of our one and only grandson.  His name is Maltheos–but we call him A.J.  He is an amazingly cute kid and I’m amazed at how quickly he has grown.  I am especially amazed at how he has taken hold of our hearts.  Unfortunately, his grandmother and I have quickly turned into doting foolish acting grandparents.  We never knew how much fun grandparenting would be.  It really is a blast.

Some of you may be wondering if I spelled my grandson’s name correctly.  Maltheos is certainly a unique name.  His parents, Adrian and Lizette, gave him his name when he was born.  It has a secret meaning and only his parents knows what it means.  When Maltheos comes of age, his father plans to have a special outing with him.  He will reveal to his son the hidden but signficant and spiritual meaning of his name.

My son has come up with an awesome idea.  In today’s Americanized culture, most names have little meaning–or most parents give little thought to the meaning.  I think all parents should give this issue some serious thought.  A child’s name should have deep meaning–a meaning that gives their self-esteem a boost and calls them to character development.   I know my son looks forward to the day when he will disclose to his son the meaning of ”Maltheos” and challenges him to live up to to his name.

Happy birthday Maltheos!

Your Grand Dad,

Nathan

SWEET THINGS HAPPENING!

Cornerstone Family,

Over the past few weeks, Cornerstone has experienced exciting new growth.  Everywhere you turn there are new faces–and everyone seems to have a smile on their face.  There is a sweet, positive, expectant spirit in the air.  It is obvious God is at work.

The next couple of months are full of some really sweet spiritual growth opportunities at Cornerstone.  These opportunities will help you build new relationships and grow deeper in your walk with God.  Let me share a few of these sweet opportunities:

Sunday (Feb 17), our new Student Pastor, Chip Zeller, will be speaking in the main service to both adults and students.  He is full of energy and has a huge love for discipling students.  Students will be blessed by Chip’s passion and teaching.

Upwards Sports is kicking off another season of soccer and cheerleading.  I love Upwards.  It teaches kids not only how to win, but more importantly how to be winners.  Every parent should check Upwards out.  If you are looking for a character building sports experience–then Upwards ought to be your choice.

Sunday week (Feb. 24), we will launch a new sermon series entitled, “Faith Lost.”  This series will take us deeper in our understanding of true Biblical faith.  It will help us understand the kind of faith that is needed to genuinely please God.

Multiple performances of the “Eyes Of Faith” Easter Musical are set for Saturday (March 22) and Sunday (March 23).  Pray now for these outreach services.  We will give a strong and clear evangelistic presentation of how to have a personal saving relationship with Jesus Christ.  Begin now praying for your lost and unchurched family and friends you need to invite to this special experience.  It could be a day they remember for eternity.

After Easter, we will begin an inspiring verse-by-verse expositional journey through the book of Philippians called “Life Lessons.”  This will be a practical joy-filled sermons series.

Continue to pray for God’s hand to be on Cornerstone.  Things are really sweet right now.  God is working.  Seize every opportunity to share with your family and fiends how important Cornerstone is to you.  Be generous with your invitations to come and check out Sunday morning at Cornerstone.

God bless you all,

Nathan

PRAYER MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Monday evening (January 7th), I met with a small group in the Common Ground Cafe for a time of intercessory prayer for our upcoming Life Action “Thirst” Revival and Spiritual Growth Conference.  It was an absolutely awesome time.  The presence of God was incredibly powerful.  Everyone there felt God’s presence and was deeply moved.  I came away humbled, convicted and greatly encouraged.

Prayer DOES make a difference–a HUGE difference.

Nathan

P.S. We will be praying again every Monday at 7:00 P.M.  If you are thirsty–come join us!

P.U.S.H. “Pray Until Something Happens”

We are launching the New Year with an emphasis on prayer.  Sunday morning we are studying the importance and power of prayer.  Prayer makes a difference–a huge difference.   And we need for God to make a difference at Cornerstone.

Sunday was such a sweet and encouraging experience.  It was so encouraging to see everyone standing up everywhere, holding hands, and praying to God in unison.

It is still not too late to join the many who make a commitment to pray for Cornerstone and our upcoming revival services for 12 minutes a day.  Those of you who made that commitment, please be faithful to carry out your commitment.

There are several vital issues we ask you to pray about.  Pray for our upcoming “THIRST” Revival Conference, starting Sunday morning (January 27th) and continuing every evening Sunday-Wednesday (January 30th).  Pray God would speak to our church family.  Pray God would reveal Himself to us.

Pray for yourself and others.  Pray God will give all of us a ‘Thirst” to know him deeply and to live for him faithfully and unselfishly.  Pray God would speak to YOUR heart and help you to see Him the way He does.  Pray God would humble us all.

Pray for the Life Action Revival Team.  Pray for God to anoint this group of young college aged students who love the Lord.  Pray for the Adult team leaders who be in charge and speaking to the adults, students and children.

Trish and I are looking forward to seeing you.  Don’t miss a single service of our THIRST Revival and spiritual growth conference.

 In Jesus name,

Nathan
